Spoiler Alert: This Game Is Freaking Awesome Diablo 3 is the long awaited third installment in the Diablo franchise. Just to give those of you that don’t know a little insight as to how long people have been waiting for this game, Diablo 2 came out in June, 2000. That’s twelve long years for the few out there with the inability to count past ten. The game takes place in the same world as the previous two games, Sanctuary is the magical world that has had a fairly bad run with the forces of Heaven and Hell in the past. The humans that occupy this world have long since become accustomed to entire towns being slaughtered overnight by hordes of hellish demons. You begin the game by choosing one of several classes that all differ in play style but share a common goal, kicking the living shit out of evil. Have you ever felt the need to just pick up a sword and start decapitating things? I know I have. If you have this feeling on an average basis then the Barbarian sounds like your cut of the proverbial hellish cake that is Diablo 3. The Barbarian has a variety of revamped skills at his/her disposal based on the use of incredible physical prowess. The barbarian is able to whirlwind through crowds, cleave through swarms, leap across crags, and crush opponents upon landing. The resource used by the barbarian is fury, which is generated through getting attacked by enemies, attacking enemies and through certain abilities. Fury is used for certain strong abilities and degenerates over time. Do you enjoy controlling minions to then have them kill your foes in a flurry of blood and violence? I know I do. The Witch Doctor is a new character reminiscent of the Diablo II necromancer, but with skills more traditionally associated with shamanism and voodoo culture. The witch doctor has the ability to summon monsters, cast curses, harvest souls, and hurl poisons and explosives at his enemies. Blizzard has stated that the Witch Doctor is not another version of the necromancer and that they may incorporate the necromancer in a future expansion. To power spells the Witch Doctor uses Mana, which regenerates slowly. Do you have cat like reflexes and the prowess of an African gazelle? I know I do. The Monk is a melee attacker, using martial arts to cripple foes, resist damage, deflect projectiles, attack with blinding speed, and land explosive killing blows. It combines the melee elements of Diablo II’s assassin class with the “holy warrior” role of the paladin. Blizzard has stated that the monk is not related in any way to the monk class from the Sierra Entertainment-made Diablo: Hellfire expansion. The Monk is fueled by spirit, which has defensive purposes and is slowly generated through attacking, though it does not degenerate. Do you hate all things evil with a passion, and want to ensure that no matter the cause, hellish minions are once again vanquished from Sanctuary?...

Do you hate all things evil with a passion, and want to ensure that no matter the cause, hellish minions are once again vanquished from Sanctuary? I know I do.
The Demon Hunter combines elements of Diablo II’s amazon and assassin classes. Demon hunters use crossbows as their main weapon and also throw small bombs at enemies. Some of their skills have been revealed and among them are arrow skills such as Chain Arrow. The demon hunter is fueled by discipline and hatred. Hatred is a fast regenerating resource that is used for attacks, while Discipline is a slow regenerating resource used for defensive abilities.

Are you a master of the arcane arts? Do you hunger to gain as much power and knowledge as is humanly possible? I know for a fact that I am all of these things as in reality I am actually a wizard.
The Wizard is a version of the sorceress from Diablo II or the sorcerer from Diablo. The Wizard’s abilities range from shooting lightning, fire and ice at his/her enemies to slowing time and teleporting around enemies and through walls. The wizard fuels their spells with arcane power, which is a fast regenerating power source.

Will Diablo Return? I don't Know...Although that Would be Pretty Fucking Sweet.

The plot for Diablo 3 is very much a mystery, what we do know is that the story begins with your hero being called to the old town of Tristram (The same exact town that the previous two games began in) where a blue glowing star had crashed into a church and there are reported signs of evil around the town. With randomly generated areas of the game, each play through is never truly the same, which adds a whole new realm of replayability to the world of Sanctuary. This coupled with fast paced gameplay, amazing scenery, and intense boss battles, all wrapped around a tightly woven plot will make for a very interesting game. Diablo 3 releases on May 15th, 2012 and you can expect a review here on BagoGames as soon as it hits store shelves.

Prototype 2 is the sequel to the popular third person action adventure game Prototype. You play as a man named Sergeant James Heller, an ex-solider that worked for a government branch called Blackwatch. In the first game you took the role of Alex Mercer, a scientist working for a genetic engineering company called Gentek, after you wake up in a morgue in a Gentek laboratory you discover that you have the ability to shapeshift, use superhuman abilities such as strength and speed, and consume humans to recover their memories. You also discover that you have no memories from your life apart from your name, and that you have a sister named Dana. You spend most of your time in the game trying to discover your past, and how the Blacklight virus that is slowly infecting New York City is related to yourself. In the end, it is found that Blackwatch ordered Gentek to stop all research on the virus and eliminate any remaining scientists working on the project, Alex takes a vial of the virus as insurance to save his life, and he ends up releasing it in a metro station just before being gunned down by Blackwatch troopers, the virus takes over your dead body and you begin the game from there. In the second game you find yourself matched up against Mercer after the virus kills your entire family and Alex himself infects you via a friendly neighborhood stab to the chest. You set yourself on a personal quest to end Alex and the virus with it, unfortunately this is not translated to your former co-workers and you end up having to fight off Blackwatch forces at the same time. Because the virus is adapting, Heller is different from Alex in the sense that he has more fluid combat then his predecessor and is capable of different attacks and powers. You will still be able to consume humans, shapeshift, throw tanks and all that fun stuff, but some things that you had the privilege of using in Prototype may not make the transition to the new game. The games story takes place just fourteen months after the events of Prototype, NYC has been renamed NYZ or New York Zero, and is split up into three different sections, a green zone, yellow zone, and red zone. Each zone has its different characteristics and personality in relation to the city and its inhabitants. While the green zone is free of the virus completely, it is filled to the brim with Blackwatch troopers, the yellow zone has become a slum and crowded ses-pool for the poorer class of citizens, the virus exists but is scarce and slow moving, and the red zone is completely overrun by the virus. It is Alex Mercers playground and domain of complete and utter control, there you will find that Blackwatch troopers are few and far between, and that for the most part, the infection grows unhindered.
Darksiders 2 is the sequel to the triple A title Darksiders that released in 2010. The game is a third person action-adventure role playing game, in it you play as one of the four horsemen of the already developed apocalypse that came a little too early according to the first games protagonist War, who was at blame for causing it. In the first game your mission is to try and prove that you are not at fault for Earths untimely destruction, and you end up wound into a large conspiracy between the forces of Heaven, Hell, and the Charred Council, the oldest beings in the known universe and rulers of all things that exist. This time around you play the role of Death, after hearing about the events of the previous game, your character flies onto earth like a comet with the other two Horsemen to try and prove that your brother War was not at fault for causing an early end to humanity. Knowing that he was the most honorable and incorruptible of the four, Death is ready to fight for his brothers cause and stand by him against the Charred Councils orders. If The Legend of Zelda and God of War had some sort of weird love child, Darksiders would be the outcome, it’s filled with button mashing combat, platforming puzzle adventures, and massive boss battles that will shake you off of your chair and into a pile of your own drool. This new video showcases some of the dungeon platforming and a boss battle that you can expect to see in the retail release. We also get a look at what the inventory system will look like, a large improvement from the last game, this time around you have more of a choice as to what armour you are wearing, and there seems to be a classical RPG like rarity system tied into the colour that the item has for its name. This improved system will give the player more choices with how they play the game and deal with enemies. Our gaming taste buds are treated to the sight of what the interviewee says are like the “makers” forklifts and utility workers, these constructs will be available in some dungeons and will work with the player to assist you with some of the more impossible challenges, the one shown in the video is known only as the rideable construct, and we can see it destroying large crystals and shooting out a chain hand to allow the player to get across large gaps in the terrain. The video is ended with a short view at what one of the many boss battles will look like, we are informed that there will be one boss per dungeon. Two words: Yes. Please. Darksiders 2 has a release date of June 26th, 2012 on all platforms and you can expect a review here when it hits store shelves.
I have one question before we start; how the hell were Naughty Dog able to keep a game this big under wraps for so long? Was the development team, supposedly all 80+ of them, shackled to their work stations with all hope of holidays suspended until the announcement was made? Remind me to pen a letter to Amnesty, there could be something sinister to this. Well anyway the joke’s on us, with Naughty Dog the fidgety delighted mastermind, as last year at the Video Game Awards we were all broadsided by the announcement of The Last of Us. For those of you who are reading this and do not know what the Last of Us is then I hope were comfortable under that rock of yours these past few months, this includes you dear editor of mine. The Last of Us will be a third person action adventure game with a dollop of survival horror on the side and comes served in a post apocalyptic world where a fungi, a plant folks, has wiped out most of humanity and created a breed of … things, let’s call them zombies for now. One of the main inspirations behind the game supposedly came from a BBC documentary which chronicled the effects of Cordyceps, a parasitic fungus which attacks entire groups of the animal kingdom. I myself had prior knowledge of Cordyceps, but for those who wish to know more I’ll let a true professional take over. How about Sir David Attenborough? Yum. So it’s not so much mutated, infectious, zombies that you’ll be contending with but an actual force of nature itself. But don’t be quick to assume that the Last of Us will be a monster game, for had it been I doubt we would have actually seen the monsters themselves in the very first trailer. Instead game director Bruce Straley says that the true stars of the show will its leading duo, Joel and Ellie. Joel is a survivor, and an apparently well known one at that. Voiced by Troy Baker, he’s been called a ‘violent thugs, a brutal killer and a torturer.’ Whether this is his actual character summed up to a tee or just the kind of man the world has forced him to become isn’t apparent yet. But we do know that he will have a powerful connection to our second protagonist. Ellie, voiced by Ashley Johnson of The Help fame, is a fourteen year old girl described to be a ‘brave young girl who is wise beyond her years’ who wasn’t around for the good old days, when nature wasn’t killing us all. From the trailer, and the body language and non verbal indications of the characters, indicates that she and Joel have been on the crash, Irish term for hard going, for some time together.

Yum. So it’s not so much mutated, infectious, zombies that you’ll be contending with but an actual force of nature itself.

The game will focus on their survival as they make their way across what is left of the US. Mark Richards, former lead designer of Enslaved, will be on hand to make everything look as beautifully ruined as possible but what of the game itself? Will we be in control of Joel or Ellie? Maybe both. One thing for certain is that there will be no online co-op, as stressed by the official web page, much to the chagrin of online lovers.

Along the way Joel and Ellie will be faced with overcoming other survivors as well as the infected plant people, still not sure what to call them at this point. Concept art and popular rumour insists there could be a some focus on stealth much in the same way as Naughty Dog handled it in Uncharted 3, well that is to say, while the environments we have been already shown simple yearn to be explored. Early screenshots also show a lot of focus on melee combat, including desperate and visceral struggles with a plant of wood. But the sad truth is we still don’t know an awful lot about the gameplay as of yet, apart from the lack of co-op. Damn it.

The story is already a huge talking point on the web, with Druckmann hoping it will ‘change the f***ing industry.’ Go for it, we say. You’ll hear no objections from us, especially with the apparent lack of compelling narratives in the games released this year so far, with Binary Domain‘s surprisingly enjoyable campaign being one highlight what with Mass Effect 3‘s documented shortcomings. The choice of composer should also get emotions flaring, in game that is, with Brokeback Mountain’s Gustavo Santaolla blowing the bag pipes behind the scenes. Not that there will actually be bag pipes in the game, although it would be pretty cool if there was. Just saying, food for thought.

Last of Us will also mark Naughty Dog’s first mature rated game to date, with Uncharted always aiming for the young adult market. But with a bludgeoning, stabbing and headshot all taking in the space of forty seconds within the very first trailer we’re sure that the Last of Us will be ditching the hopeful optimism of the Uncharted series, nobody can be that unlucky and live to tell the tale, in favour of a more gritty and bloody approach. Yet Druckmann stresses that it won’t be anything too gratuitous, insisting it won’t be a true horror game but more of a love story. Wait, what?

Very much inspired by the birth of his child, Druckmann hopes to keep the narrative focus on the budding ‘father – daughter’ relationship between the game’s two protagonist. In fact, as stated in an earlier interview that I can’t seem to find right now, Druckmann revealed that the name Ellie had originally been one of the names considered for his daughter. Talk about personal investment.

Whatever the challenge the game will create studio boss Evan Wells insists they have a team more than capable of delivering. As for when it will actually be delivered, as in released, is still anyone’s guess. While certain to see it before the coming of 2013, if we’re all still here, an exact release date has yet to be announced. We’re hoping to see it this November, filling the slot of an Uncharted release and butting heads with whatever Treyarch will have come up with. That’s what we’re hoping anyway, as gamers who already can’t wait to get their hands on it.

Come what may, Last of Us already looks like an incredible addition to the PS3 library and one which gamers can not afford to miss. Making the already intolerable wait for more details all the more frustrating as we patiently labour over our keyboards and pray for a new trailer, interview or, hell, even an image just so we can know a little bit more of our new favourite videogame.

And for those among us who disagree here is a trailer to change your mind. Or if this isn’t your thing, then click here to check out another awesome upcoming game.

I absolutely loved Warhawk. In the days when brag worthy PS3 exclusives were few and far between Warhawk had been my saving grace. So, obviously, I wanted more. But rather than simply expand Warhawk, like Lightbox/Incognito had already done several times, to drag the action into orbit they instead decided to isolate the core DNA of what made their highly successful Warhawk so enjoyable and transcript it into something new. The result: Starhawk. While still retaining the basic principle of Warhawk, a third person shooter where you can either jet around the map or plough through it in a tank, there are some bold mutations in the works. Namely a new and unheard of strategy element called ‘Build n’ Battle.’ While on foot and running around spraying your enemies you have the choice to call up a menu and select from a variety of constructions which will promptly fall right out of the sky and assemble at you chosen location. Neat huh? So say if you were in urgent need of extra fire power. Your allies have already commandeered the closest turrets. You’re in a hurry and not the patient sort, so you call down a turret of your and eh presto! Within seconds you’re totting off rounds like its nobody’s business. While it initially sounded like a soldier’s wet dream turned reality, the power to hail ornaments at the drop of the hat given you have the credit to pay up, it wasn’t until I played the beta that I truly understood what this meant for the game. A third person shooter with tactical real time strategy elements! Perhaps the PC veterans would scoff at the thought, but I’ve never before in all my days enjoyed anything of the sort on consoles. The beauty is you don’t have to be some dastardly, monocle sporting, tactical genius to get into it. It does exactly as it says on the tin and the results speak for themselves in seconds. Giving everyone the chance to make a mark on the battlefield and make it their own. The game is still a shooter at it’s core, and never strays too far from the formula that made it so fun to begin with. Killing people lets you build more, and building more lets you kill more people. A simple equation that keeps the focus on fun instead of nervously rationing your credit in case you would need it later. Another departure from Warhawk is the inclusion of a single player campaign, something originally scripted to appear in Warhawk but eventually cut from the first game. Taking place in the frontier badlands the player takes control of one Emmett Graves, a scarred for life former mining foreman trying to earn his way as a rifter. The plot focuses on a conflict with an army of mutated miners called the Outcasts over rift energy, your only source of a solid pay check. With the assistance of his engineer, Graves takes the fight to the Outcasts as...

With the assistance of his engineer, Graves takes the fight to the Outcasts as he tries to gather as much rift energy as possible and get some personal payback along the way…

Along with the build n’ battle gameplay there comes another twist in the tale; Hawks, Starhawk’s answer to the Nemesis & Warhawk’s of latter installments. Hawks, much like the previously mentioned aircraft, are land to air combat mechs; capable of re-enacting the thrilling dog fights of olden days against the golden skies of combat or switching, in Michael Bay fashion, to a bipedal setting and running amok through an enemies base.

The game comes complete with multiplayer, but of course, and all our favourite bells and whistles from Warhawk are to be carefully relocated to their new homes in Starhawk. With the beta already showcasing the difference a few upgraded and additional game mechanics can make to a classic set-up. Starhawk’s online is everything that Warhawk was and couldn’t be, with more weapons and options than ever before that are certain to appeal to returning aces as well as an entire new audience. It never once feels like a real time strategic shooter, but rather an awesome third person action title with a lot of toys to play with. One of the most memorable being the best use of respawn I have seen in a long time, orbital drop for the win!

But if competitive multiplayer isn’t your phone then don’t panic! Starhawk has got you covered with a co-operative horde mode where two to four players can band together to repel the Outcast legions and build a better world together, or get painfully torn apart. Either way works for us. I’m also pleased to inform you that the controls have been given an overhaul, inspired instead by the more popular shooters of today in order to make it much more accessible to a wider market. But yet again, if that doesn’t suit your fancy, then you can easily revert back to classic Warhawk commands by accessing the control set up from the menu where you will also be able to customise your character to suit your personal taste.

Clan support will also be revamped, offering more control to their commanders and more options from the main menu such as easy tournament arrangements. Making it more accessible to many and more enjoyable to all as you take to the skies as a proud army of comrades, or randomly assembled team of skilled individuals. I’m not going to fool you into thinking everyone will get along.

Presentation wise Starhawk isn’t going to turn heads, but that never really mattered. Warhawk’s presentation was always supposed to be more quirky than impressive. Yet while it may have gone along a more realistic and gritty approach, Starhawk looks set to follow in it’s footsteps and looks great for what it does; offering more variety and choice than any action title on the market.

So what the hell are you waiting for? Find a calender, pronto like, and set a reminder for May 8th and I’ll see you in the skies soldier!

P.S: Anyone caught nicking my Hawks is screwed…I mean it.

There will not be a download however, so you will not need to worry about RAM space. You will need to make sure your internet quality is good, so that you dont lag whilst trying to fight off a horde of enemies from your castle.
Mortal Combat 2011 brings us back to the basics. This is a reboot, but it's not like the past couple of Mortal Combat games that got muddled up in so called improvements. Mortal Combat 2011 hearkens back to the early nineties by returning to the 2D fighting arena that was simple and by keeping up on the gore that made the series so popular in the first place. Now the game isn't just a carbon copy of it's Nintendo forefather, it rocks a pretty awesome story and the visuals are much more 2011 than 1990. IGN had a chance to sit down and play the game before it's April 19th, 2011 release date and the gameplay looks freaking awesome as do the fatalities. Who would of thought you could KO a guy by holding his face to a moving train. Check out the preview of the gameplay and gear up for some subzero fun.
