Film Fallout Podcast #37.5 – Let’s Talk About VIFF 2016

Manchester by the Sea
(Manchester by the Sea, Pearl Street Films)

The Vancouver International Film Festival happened last month and we’ve been holding onto a podcast about VIFF 2016 for a couple weeks now. We discussed the Toronto International Film Festival recently, and now it’s only fair that we discuss the west coast version. Dylan Schwan attended the festival this year, and Christopher Cross moderates the podcast which features some Oscar hopefuls and some interesting and fun new films from esteemed directors. The full list of films (with reviews linked) are below:

Toni Erdmann (dir. Maren Ade)
Endless Poetry (dir. Alejandro Jodorowsky)
The Birth of a Nation (dir. Nate Parker)
In a Valley of Violence (dir. Ti West)
Elle (dir. Paul Verhoeven)
American Honey (dir. Andrea Arnold)
Paterson (dir. Jim Jarmusch)
Things to Come (dir. Mia Hansen-Love)
Under the Shadow (dir. Babak Anvari)
The Handmaiden (dir. Park Chan-wook)
The Red Turtle (dir. Michael Dudok de Wit)
Manchester by the Sea (dir. Kenneth Lonergan)

We talk about some of the films Dylan didn’t get to see, as well as a bit of the vibe from VIFF 2016. Listen to the podcast below to hear more:

Film Fallout is a weekly podcast about film and television. Every week, Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan discuss news happening in the industry, blu-ray releases coming out this week, what they’ve been watching, and then a review of one movie. You can listen to it on SoundCloud, iTunes, or on BagoGames. Also follow us on Instagram for some behind-the-scenes magic.
