Sonic Forces Introduces a New Customizable Hero

Players who are tired of feeling like Sonic does all the work to save the world can rest easy – now you’ll be able to create your own character who will play a prevalent part in stopping Eggman’s domination in Sonic Forces. Your created character will be able to take on new abilities depending on how you customize them, and will be present in the story’s cutscenes, making them feel like a crucial part of the narrative. This is the first time players have been able to create their own custom Hero character and they’ll even be able to customize how it looks and plays. You can watch a trailer for the new Hero character in action, above.

Equipped with Wispons – powerful unique gadgets of which there are a variety of – players will be able to maneuver through platforming zones much faster and also give themselves a boost in offensive capabilities. As you can see in the trailer, the Hero character is also equipped with a grappling hook for traversing levels quickly. The other neat addition besides tons of accesories to customize your character, is the inclusion of different animal types for you to select. Picking a different animal type for your character’s species is important because it dictates what abilities you will have. Look below for a breakdown of each animal type and its respective ability:

  • Wolf – Automatically draws in rings when near them
  • Rabbit – Has longer invincible time after receiving damage
  • Cat – Keeps one ring after being hit
  • Dog – Restarts with five rings after the player dies
  • Bear – Blows away enemies with a homing attack
  • Bird – Flies high with double jump abilities
  • Hedgehog – Collects rings when getting damaged
